The Best Shaving Creams Under $50

Shaving creams are all the same, right? Wrong. They vary in scents, and most importantly ingredients. Finding the best shaving cream for your skin type is the difference between getting a nasty ingrown hair or a flawless, smooth shave. However, quality doesn’t always have to mean expensive. To help, we have developed a list of that won’t leave a hole in your pocket. The shaving creams have all been tried and tested by Male Standard, and whittled down to the top five we’ve tried this year. Leave a comment below if you want us to do more of these lists, so you can see what we’re using!

Lab Series Maximum Comfort Shave Cream

Lab Series Skincare for Men has a history of making quality products, and this maximum comfort shaving cream is no exception. Suitable for all skin types, the creamy formula softens and prepares your skin for a closer shave. The texture is rich and feels soothing on even the most irritated skin; we switched over on the great advice of a friend after another brand tore up our skin. We were impressed with it’s ability to tackle sensitive skin, but Lab also offers a unique and patented formula that helps prevent cuts and ingrown hairs. If you suffer from any shaving afflictions, this is a great choice for you!

Anthony Logistics Shave Cream

Packed with Vitamins A, C and E, this cream from Anthony Logistics is a solid choice for men who have hair that gets a bit rough. Using a combination of soothing Aloe Vera gel and Squalene (a wheat germ derived ingredient), it helps nourish the skin from within and also helps lubricate the epidermis to prevent razor burns and cuts. This is a great choice for those with thick and coarse hair, or ethnic skin. The cream will help soften the hair and prepare the skin for a close shave with less irritation. It’s also fragrance free, adding to the all skin types buzz.

Dermalogica Soothing Shave Cream

Dermalogica Soothing Shave Cream

If you want a product that moisturizes and preps your skin for your daily shave, Dermalogica Soothing Shave Cream is it. Jojoba seed oil and Shea butter locks moisture in the skin whilst Comfrey leaf extract reliefs the skin of any irritation shaving may cause. The elderberry scent is masculine and features a subtle tart and fruit undertone. We found this to be a great mid-price point product that really performs like a top shelf contender. Dermalogica is highly recommended for those with sensitive skin especially, but any man can enjoy this natural range.

Geo F Trumper Shave Cream

With a sandalwood aroma and a luxurious lather, Geo F. Trumper leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft, as if you were fresh out the barbershop. This classic style cream works best with a shaving brush and shaving bowl, and is whipped into a fluffy, nourishing foam that softens facial hair for a close shave. The best part is that you don’t need to use much product to get a great result. As they say, a little goes a long way. The whipping action of the shaving brush, with a dash of water makes this incredibly economical. You’ll use less and less every time, and still have a thick foam to work with.

  • Lewis Harper says:

Sorry guys but you missed the absolute best shaving cream in the world: Al’s Shaving Cream ( No other cream comes close in lather quality.and volume. I traded years of irritation for the closest shaves once I started using it. I love all the scents, they are natural. More importantly, they are made in the USA. Try this one and you will love it too.

  • Midwest Blade says:

Your quoted price on Anthony Logistics Shace Cream is incorrect, it is available for $16.50 for the 6 oz. tube on their website.

  • Chuck says:

I probably wouldn’t even bother with the top four in that list. Here’s what I would replace them with:

    1) D.R. Harris (mmm Arlington) – tubs are ~$25, tubes are ~$14
    2) Castle Forbes (especially lime) – available for $38+shipping from Amazon
    3) Truefitt & Hill – from their website, $30 for a tub and $22 for a tube
    4) Taylor of Old Bond St. – tubs can be had for ~$15

  • Male Standard says:

    Thanks for the recommendations Douglas.

  • Ken Archer says:

Definitely everyone has a favorite. I like some of the ones mentioned but I am definitely very fond of Al’s Shaving. An excellent product without a doubt and very affordable. I made a custom with cedar and lavender for $38 that came in a 8 oz tub to the top!

  • Steve LaBoon says:

I have used many shave creams, including Anthony Shave Cream. I keep coming back to Proraso because in my opinion, it stays wetter and richer for a longer time and covers the skin more completely. I use the eucalyptus formulation and find it is the best for me. I also use a double edge safety razor…not the over priced cartridge razors.
