As a rule, summer is the perfect time to invest in lighter fragrances. For 2013, we are seeing tons of mint infused fragrances hitting the shelves. This is a great way to mix things up, and the mint gives a clean crisp scent ideal for those warmer nights.

Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale
While admittedly not an easy name to pronounce, this highly anticipated summer Salvatore Ferragamo fragrance has been on everyone lips. We wanted to find out what the fuss was about and took it upon ourselves to give this bad boy a try. Straight out of the box, we loved the no fuss, sleek design. This great bathroom filler is as enticing on, as it looks sitting around waiting for use.
Plus, you get a massive bottle for the price!
In keeping with this summer’s trend, you get a hint of mint, along with lemon and a steady top note of musk. This was a favorite daily wearer that had incredible staying power. With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees in some States, we wanted to know if the fragrance would stand up to the heat. This one did! It also lasted for a good 12 hours of moderate wear, and 8 hours of heavy activity, and was as fresh on as when it washed off.
Why we like it:
- It’s a casual but masculine scent that’s bang on trend
- The bottle looks great, and is fantastic value
- Younger or active men really appreciated the staying power
- It has a light yet deep scent that was pleasing to men and women
- It’s a great introduction into other Salvatore Ferragamo fragrances
Overall score: 4/5 It’s durable, but mature men might not be impressed.

Lacoste Noir for Men
Another summer release, we were super excited to test out this intriguing package. Noir for Men by Lacoste comes in a small, inconspicuous black bottle making it ideal for travelling with or keeping tucking away at work. The fragrance is heady, and as soon as you open the lid, it fills the room with deep, woody scent. There’s cashmere, patchouli, and even a touch of dark chocolate, which makes this a surprisingly sensual scent.
We love that Lacoste call this ‘the new black,’ as it’s entirely different from their Classic White Label that they are known for. Unlike the Classic, this is heady, and almost complicated and mysterious. It reminds us of BOSS or JOOP, and is not the same clean, yet clinical smell we are used to from Lacoste. That said, we do love it, and this one keeps on growing on you. The scent also develops uniquely on each man, and over the course of the evening.
This one is great for the romantics among us!
What We Liked:
- Long lasting, influential fragrance, ideal for night time use
- The bottle, while tiny, looks set to last you a long time
- It sets differently for each man, but always smells good
- Most likely to get stopped and asked what you are wearing
- Has a touch of mystery about it, making it a great conversation starter
Overall? 4/5 We really like it, but some reviewers felt it a touch synthetic smelling.
